Travancore is 5 km north-west of the Melbourne CBD and located between the Tullamarine Freeway and Mount Alexander Road. The suburb takes its name from the Travancore Mansion and Estate. The property was then demolished in the 1940s.

Currently Travancore is serviced by Flemington Bridge Railway Station and tram route 59. The nearby Moonee Ponds Creek Trail has provided the local residents urban serenity.
