The tram Route 57 runs through the area providing public transport from Flinders Street Station via Elizabeth Street. The other tram route serving the area is #82 running from Moonee Ponds to Footscray pass by Maribyrnong. Alternatively, Ascot Vale, Footscray and West Footscray railway stations on multiple metro service lines can be accessed with a short distance providing convenient public transport options for the residents.



This suburb takes its name from the Maribyrnong River. The river bounds the suburb to the north and east. The Maribyrnong River Trail is used by commuting and recreational cyclists along the river course. There are also numerous bike and walking trails whick link the suburb to various other suburbs and take in some of the western suburbs' greatest natural beauties, such as Pipemakers Park, Afton Street Conservation Park and Footscray Park.
